Things are starting to cool down a little bit here in Utica, New York, but Oriskany Garage Tire & Auto Service is still doing to discuss ways you can keep the inside of your car, SUV, or truck cooler in the summer. Even though these tips help, please understand that they will not keep the interior cold enough so that you can leave your children or pets in the car. Do not leave either in the car.
Look for Shade
We know. You don’t need us to tell you to look for shade. In the heat of the summer, parking lots are filled with drivers driving around trying to find a shady parking space. We know that you will park under a tree if you can find one, but what if you can’t? You can keep your vehicle cooler if there is a public parking garage nearby. Park in there to keep your car shaded.
Put Up Shades
If either option is unavailable, put up shades in all of the windows to make sure the sun cannot beat down on your car’s interior. Use a windshield shade, a shade for the rear window, and shades for all of the windows on the sides. You can purchase shades that are specific for each window at an auto parts store. You may also find them at the local supercenter.
Cover the Interior
One disadvantage of the sun beating down on the interior of your automobile is that it can fade and crack the seats and the dashboard. To prevent this from happening, many people cover the seats and dashboard with covers specifically for this task. If you do not have these covers, use towels. They come in plenty of different sizes for all of your needs.
Ventilate the Car
Another thing you can do to help keep the interior cooler is to ventilate your car. Once you have found the parking space and put up the shades, cracked the windows slightly to allow air to flow through the vehicle. Keep in mind, however, that, again, this does not make the interior safe for kids or pets.
Service the Car
Finally, we can help, too. Call our shop to schedule a service appointment so we can inspect your air conditioner and cooling system. This allows us to make sure that the AC is running efficiently so it cools down the inside of the vehicle quickly after it has been parked. It also allows us to check the cooling system to make sure you have plenty of coolant so the engine won’t overheat.
